Early Pregnancy: Choosing a Care Team, and Caring for yourself

There are many options when choosing your care team.  From doulas to obstetricians, we cover who they are and what role they play.

​We will also cover the basics of nutrition, exercise, and staying healthy while pregnant, and discuss the different diagnostic tests and procedures you'll be offered in pregnancy.

Changes in Pregnancy

Pregnancy can feel like it changes EVERYTHING. Learn about the changes you might see physically, emotionally, and in your relationships.

Safety in Pregnancy and Parenthood

You'll learn about reasons to visit the hospital or call your doctor in pregnancy, and how to approach those early days with a newborn (including what's normal and what is not).  This portion of the class is mandatory for all clients.

Includes a free instructional/demonstration of CPR and Choking treatment for babies and children.

Preparing for Birth: What to bring and how to help

You'll learn about how to alleviate the pain of labour, how your partner can help, and how to adjust techniques and approaches as labour progresses, including positions for pushing. 

Includes information about both non-pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical forms of pain relief, and help in determining your wishes for birth.

Includes a list of suggestions for what to pack in your birth bag.

Recognizing and Understanding Labour

You'll learn how to recognize labour, the phases of labour, and when to prepare for delivery or proceed to your birthing place if leaving your home.

The Unexpected

You'll learn about possible complications of pregnancy and birth including multiples, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, inductions, assisted deliveries, and Caesarean Sections. We will discuss strategies to stay empowered no matter what happens.

Preparing for Postpartum

Postpartum brings host of physical and mental changes and healing.  You'll learn what you can do ahead of time to ease the transition, what to expect in the early postpartum period, and be provided with resources for additional help if needed.

Feeding and Caring for your baby

Learn the basics of breast and bottle feeding.  Fed is best!  

​We will also discuss basic baby care including bathing, umbilical cord care, and how to trim those tiny fingernails.

Personalize your birth plan based on your top priorities. Make a plan A, B, and C (section) to be sure you are as empowered and confident as you can be, no matter how your birth plays out
